MBC's new drama "Woman with a Suitcase" has officially overtaken SBS's "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" in viewership ratings for Monday-Tuesday drama. The new MBC drama, starring Choi Ji Woo and Joo Jin Mo, premiered on Sept. 26, Monday, with a recorded ratings of 7.9 percent.
The SBS historical drama "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo," which stars Lee Joon Gi, IU and Kang Ha Neul, previously ranked second in the ratings race following KBS 2TV's "Moonlight Drawn By Clouds." However, it was unable to maintain its position as MBC's "Woman with a Suitcase" quickly climbed.
The second episode of "Woman with a Suitcase" scored 8.4 percent viewership ratings, while "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" only garnered 7.5 percent, according to Nielson Korea, as cited by The Kpop Herald. The KBS 2TV drama, which stars Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung, managed to secure the top spot with an impressive 20.1 percent viewership ratings.
Helmed by Kwon Seok-Jang, "Woman with a Suitcase" follows the story of Cha Geum Joo (Choi), who works as a manager at an attorney's office. However, she gets arrested for rupturing a lawyer code.
Cha Geum Joo manages to pick herself up and rebuild her career through the help of a media rep, Ham Bok Geo (Joo). He falls in love with her at first sight and decides to help her with her case, behind-the-scene.
Using his trusted connections, Ham Bok Geo helps Cha Geum Joo become a great lawyer and later helps her open her own law office. Other stars include Jeon Hye Bin as Park Hye Joo and Lee Joon as Ma Suk-Woo.
"Instead of being a serious legal drama, it will cover the political, financial and entertainment circles, as well as social issues, the paparazzi, and ordinary people inside the legal circle," Yonhap News Agency quoted a representative from MBC as saying before a group of local reporters.
