Sevilla, the reigning three straight Europa League titlists, kicked off the season with a five-game unbeaten run to become one of the early contenders in the Spanish top flight competitions.
However, their streak was put to a stop last Saturday on the road at the San Mamés Stadium as they fell to a 1-3 loss to Athletic Bilbao, BBC Sport reported.
Los Leones broke the deadlock at the 26th minute with a close-range left-footer from midfielder Mikel San Jose, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead at the half.
Los Rojiblancos were able to find the equalizer 10 minutes after the restart courtesy of an individual move by French winger Samir Nasri against Bilbao keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
However, Athletic Club netted the next two goals of the game at the 66th and 90th minutes with shots from Mikel Balenziaga and Aritz Aduriz to take the 3-1 win and hand head coach Jorge Sampaoli's side their first loss this season.
Meanwhile, Alaves defeated bottom three squad Granada, 3-1, at their own home ground of Mendizorrotza Stadium on Monday to earn their second victory in the term, as per USA Today.
After a goalless first half, left winger Edgar Mendez netted the game-opener at the 52nd minute. Midfielder Victor Camarasa then doubled the lead 14 minutes later as head coach Mauricio Pellegrino's boys took control of the contest.
However, El Grana forward Artem Kravets was able to cut the lead to one point with a goal at the 78th minute.
It was the only goal of the visitors, though, as Brazilian striker Deyverson sealed the win with a left-footed shot in injury time, completing the hosts' three-goal haul.
