When "Narcos" Season 3 returns, the hit Netflix series will see a lot of transformations as Cali Cartel and Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela (Damian Alcazar) reign over Colombia. New promotional videos released earlier this week showed that Cali Cartel is dominating the drug trafficking business after Pablo Escobar's (Wagner Moura) death.
In one of the promo teasers for "Narcos" Season 3 shared on Narcos official Facebook page, Singer Paquita la Del Barrio showed how she hates the Colombian drug lords by singing despicable lyrics in her song. She seemed to scare off these people in the bar as she protests her anger while singing in front of Escobar's poster.
Before the video ends, Del Barrio's face changed when she saw Orejuela sitting among the crowd. His face signals how powerful he is now that he is the king of all drug lords in Colombia.
Another video released this week about "Narcos" Season 3 gives a clue how Cali cartel replaces Escobar's Medellín cartel that gained its power by supplying almost 80 percent of cocaine smuggled into the United States. Orejuela was celebrating with his men for the success of his drug cartel since the death of his rival Escobar.
With the caption of the video "Pablo was the boss, but Gilberto is the King" relays that Cali Cartel will be bigger and more powerful than the Medellin cartel. DEA agent Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal), who took down Escobar, appeared to be set up and is now being pressed for the rise of Cali Cartel in Colombia.
"Unlike Escobar, who had positioned himself as an outlaw, Cali was very much a part of the system," showrunner Eric Newman told The Hollywood Reporter. "While Escobar was a single-cell organism, they were a complex, multicelled organism."
"Narcos" Season 3 will see not only the rise of Orejuela, but also Miguel Rodriguez (Francisco Denis), Pacho Herrera (Alberto Ammann) and a character named "Chepe" in the drug trafficking business in Colombia. Viewers can also expect a minor time jump from where the Season 2 finale left off in order for the fans to get acquainted with the new characters in Season 3.
In an interview with Vulture, Newman teased that the next season will not be as bloody as the previous season, but Season 3 features a different angle on how Cali Cartel gained its power and penetrated even the Colombian system.
