Bill Goldberg is leaving the doors open to a possible WWE return, following an expected question was thrown at the former WWE/WCW champion on ESPN. Goldberg was the special guest to promote WWE 2K17 though viewers were more interested in the 49-year-old’s association with the company.
Since word of his ESPN appearance came out, Goldberg made headlines and was linked to a potential ring return. The belief of such was sparked when he was surprisingly included on WWE 2K17 despite his rocky past with Vince McMahon and the WWE altogether.
Former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman asked Goldberg up front of a potential return though Goldberg hardly rendered a firm answer, ESPN reported. At one point, he weighed in on whether he could return at 49 and risk his legacy as well.
Goldberg adds that there are a lot of WWE stars right now he could face and beat down but only one match seemed to make sense. That is with reference to Brock Lesnar, the same guy he defeated at Wrestlemania 20.
However, Goldberg was aware that this is not the same Brock Lesnar he fought in March 2004. He has obviously been following the rise of the “Beast Incarnate” and admits that facing Lesnar will be a tall order.
Seeing Goldberg show a bit of apprehension is only normal since he has been out of wrestling for 12 years now. If a ring return is indeed in the cards, he would need ample time to try and whip himself back to fighting shape before locking horns with Lesnar inside the squared circle.
That said, any hope of seeing a Goldberg vs. Lesnar match will need time to make. That is not solely in reference to the storyline leading to the card but the conditioning needed for Goldberg to put on a good show.
As far as he is concerned, Goldberg claims he would need until the end of the year to get ready for a potential ring return. This is with the understanding that his family will back him up on his WWE ring return plans, USA Today reported.
If that is the case, the earliest possible time for Goldberg to return is by the WWE Royal Rumble in January 2017 where he could be a surprise entrant. If so, that could set the stage for a Wrestlemania 33 showdown which many feel would be perfect.
