For her 32nd birthday, Jane Zhang might have wished for her widowed mother’s presence, peace between her mother and her fiancé, a parent’s blessing for her wedding, or the success of her latest album--or for all four. It’s her birthday after all.
One probable wish actually got granted.
On Oct. 11, Zhang Guiying graced an event somewhere in Chengdu organized to celebrate the day she gave birth to her famous pop star daughter. Even more surprisingly, she agreed to have pictures taken with future son-in-law whom she recently publicly despised, reported China.org.
Perhaps one of the major--and convincingly much talked about, more touching--highlights of Jane’s birthday party was when she and fiancé Michael Feng posed for some pictures on stage together with a smiling Guiying--who even flashed a V-sign at one point.
The public have feasted on the current drama embroiling the three.
Guiying, in a letter she permitted to get published and appeared on news outlets this month, accused Feng--CEO of Show City Times, which manages Jane’s career--of committing two unpleasant acts: cheating on Jane and manipulating her and her daughter’s shares in the said company without their consent.
For the alleged tampering of shares, Guiying sued Feng in September.
“We never knew and we never signed any documents,” said Guiying.
The seemingly protective mother also suspects that Feng has not been totally faithful to her daughter for the past 13 years that they have been dating.
She doubts his love for Jane and further claims he merely desires to get hold of Jane’s money.
Jane, initially called Zhang Liangying when she joined and placed third at “Super Girl” in 2005, disclosed her 12-year relationship with Michael--Feng Ke--before her throngs of supporters during a concert in Changsha, Hunan Province, on July 4, 2015, reported Women of China.
Pausing her show, Jane said that she didn’t want to be alone anymore after more than a decade of relationship, then challenged that one man to come up on stage if ever he wanted to marry her.
Feng soon joined her on stage.
Guiying’s presence at Jane’s birthday party and her subsequent behavior seemed to send a different kind of message.
Jane performed five songs during her birthday celebration and promoted the single, “Dust My Shoulders Off” from her new $4-million album, according to China.org.
The English song features the voice of Timbaland, an American singer-songwriter-record producer who worked with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliott, Demi Lovato and power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z.
For the wedding scheduled this November, perhaps Jane--and Michael--can finally get Guiying’s blessing.
