"Sleeping Dogs" was a sleeper hit in 2012 across all the platforms but the studio United Front Games who developed the game have closed down recently.
United Front Games could have been saved if Square Enix wanted to continue "Sleeping Dogs" with more sequels. The game was similar to Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto" series as players can explore the fictional map and kill people as well.
"Sleeping Dogs" was unique in its own way as the main character could do Kung-Fu moves whereas "Grand Theft Auto" relied heavily on guns and cars to entertain players. Unfortunately, there seems to be no future for "Sleeping Dogs" as the studio has now shut down.
United Front Games released the "Smash+Grab" game recently on Steam Early Access but the game has now been taken down despite just having a free weekend on the platform, KitGuru has learned. There is now no new announcements regarding the game as the promotion has been pretty consistent so far until the day when UFG closed down.
Besides "Sleeping Dogs" and "Smash+Grab," United Front Games was also responsible for several huge ports. "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" for Xbox One and "Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition" were some of their ports but no "Sleeping Dogs" sequel was announced by the company or Square Enix.
Some speculate that United Front Games had problems with Triad Wars which was supposed to be an attempt of making "Sleeping Dogs" an online multiplayer game, Attack of the Fanboy reported. The game did not see the light of day due to the many problems it faced during its development which led to the cancellation of the game.
Square Enix still owns the right to the "Sleeping Dogs" IP and they could just find a new developer studio to handle the sequel. The company has not yet announced whether they are ending the story outright or if they plan to do a continuation in the future.
United Front Games has not made any comments regarding their shut down and no employee or inside source confirms the stories. The fact that the studio has not answered questions could mean that they are indeed closed down for good.
