"The Winds of Winter"by George R.R Martin's book series, "A Song of Ice and Fire," has been delayed and pushed back to a 2018 release instead. While most of the readers already know the gist of the story because the TV version is already ahead of the books, this news is still a disappointment for them.
Now many of the fans of the series already understands that GGRM's writing style is very slow, but there are still hopes that the release of the books would somehow catch up to the show. Some are already having doubts as to whether the author even wants to finish writing the series.
GRRM wrote in his online journal that the cause of his delays and writing is due to the fact that he is getting old and schedules are on every corner. He already said that he just wants to take his time to finish his book. Adding the constant messages he gets from the fans, the pressure for GRRM is without a doubt, a heavy one.
"I do have thousands of pages of the fake history of everything that led up to 'Game of Thrones,' so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more." Aussie Network News reported.
However, despite all the issues of the show being ahead of the books, producer D.B Weiss discussed that the direction of the show would depart from what the original story of the book is going to be.
"At this point, after so many years writing for these characters and spending time in George's world, we had to be able to walk on our own feet. A lot of people go in and have to create their own characters and they do fine with it. At a certain point, if we weren't able to do it, then shame on us," Weiss told Deadline during an interview.
There are also rumors that the reason for the delayed release is because of the speculations that "A Dream of Spring," the last installment of the book series, is also coming alongside with "The Winds of Winter." Unfortunately, there is still no exact date for the release, but the readers are hoping that it would at least be earlier than the season premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 7.
