Many fans are still hoping that Phil Brooks, more famously known as CM Punk, will return to the WWE despite his stance against the company. However, the latest rumors suggest that CM Punk could potentially become the pre-order exclusive character for the WWE 2K18 video game.
According to Aaron Sass of The Inquisitr, CM Punk is one of the potential superstars that might appear for WWE 2K18 as a bonus character. Previous superstars that became pre-order exclusive characters for the video game franchise are the Ultimate Warrior, Sting and Bill Goldberg.
The report pointed out that getting Punk to sign with the WWE is very tricky since the split between the two was very shaky. Also, he has made some very negative comments about the company and he has a lawsuit against the WWE's doctor at the moment.
The 37-year-old former superstar is still not in good terms with the WWE despite the rumors of him coming back surfaced last week. He also has not given up on his MMA career and he looks to prove his doubters wrong. Nevertheless, Sass thinks that CM Punk will return as long as the offer is right.
"If the right offer was made, then he probably would be. It would also probably make WWE 2K18 the hottest wrestling video game since WWF No Mercy was released in 2000," Sass wrote.
It should be noted that the Ultimate Warrior, Sting and Goldberg were not in good terms with the WWE but they were able to bury the hatchet. Warrior and Goldberg made negative comments about Vince McMahon and his company in the past but it did not matter anymore.
On the other hand, Sting was the face of WCW and he vowed to never appear for the WWE. However, he made his debut for the WWE in 2014 and he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. As for Punk, it would likely take a lot more time to convince him to return to the WWE.
In the recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that CM Punk feels like coming back to the WWE is a "loss in life." He walked away from the WWE due to creative differences and his character not going anywhere.
"The thing with Punk is that, according to those close to Punk, he would see going back to WWE as a loss in life, where Goldberg was just a businessman who had hard feelings about the past but would have no trouble letting them go if it was the right business," Meltzer said.
