WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho are the best of friends at the moment heading into Survivor Series. However, the latest rumors imply that the WWE is going to break up JeriKO at the event during their 5-on-5 Elimination Match against Team SmackDown Live.
The duo of Owens and Jericho is the weekly highlight of Monday Night Raw for the past couple of months. But many fans expect the story to have a payoff wherein they split and feud for the WWE Universal Championship.
As recapped by WWE.com, the seeds of a possible breakup have been planted this past Monday on Raw in Glasgow, Scotland. In the Fatal 5-Way Match involving all the members of Team Raw, Owens was the one who got win when he accidentally pinned Jericho.
KO was hit by a Superman Punch by Roman Reigns but he fell into the unconscious Jericho so the referee had no choice but to count. The story is slowly writing itself with Survivor Series less than two weeks away.
According to Blake Oestriecher of Forbes, the WWE must split up the best friends at Survivor Series. He noted that the 5-on-5 Survivor Series Matches have no repercussion which means the only good that will come out of it is progressive storytelling.
"Survivor Series provides WWE with the ideal platform to pull the trigger on the long anticipated demise of JeriKO. With Jericho and Owens working side by side in a match with so many different layers to it, the main story here is not a battle for brand supremacy, but rather, whatever happens next between two of Raw's finest," Oestriecher opined.
It should be noted that these are just purely speculative at the moment. However, the rumored plan for Owens and Jericho is a match for the WWE Universal Championship. They will likely face Seth Rollins and Reigns in a Tag Team Match before the end of the year.
Another possibility is Owens defending the title against Reigns and Rollins battling Jericho for consistently costing him the WWE Universal championship. Nevertheless, the WWE will have no choice but to break up Owens and Jericho.
The two heels currently the best thing on a three-hour Raw show so the WWE is going to slowly kill it. The Shield reunion will get a lot of buzz but it is not as big without Dean Ambrose, who is on SmackDown Live.
