The 30th Anniversary of the Survivor Series is less than two weeks away and a couple of matches have some repercussions for both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. The latest suggest that the Intercontinental championship will be coming to Monday nights while the Cruiserweight Division switches to the Tuesday show.
As recapped by WWE.com, Dolph Ziggler will be defending the Intercontinental championship at Survivor Series against a representative of Raw. That representative turned out to be Sami Zayn, who defeated Rusev on Raw in a match in Glasgow, Scotland.
On the other hand, Kalisto is going to challenge Brian Kendrick for the WWE Cruiserweight title with much bigger implications. If the masked superstar manages to win the championship, the whole cruiserweight division is going to SmackDown.
According to Cageside Seats, the WWE is planning to make a double switch regarding both the Intercontinental and Cruiserweight titles. It is rumored that Ziggler will lose the championship and Zayn brings it to Raw.
The red brand currently has Roman Reigns as the United States champion but he is expected to challenge for the WWE Universal Championship at the end of the year. It makes other superstars stagnant which makes the Intercontinental title something to feud for in the coming months.
As for the cruiserweight belt, Kendrick becomes a transitional champion but it changes the perspective of the entire division. The 205 pounders will have more stories to tell on SmackDown unlike in Raw wherein there is no progression of characters.
The cruiserweight division has been a massive failure in Raw as the former champion, T.J. Perkins, was not properly introduced. The whole division was just put in random tag team matches, albeit entertaining, there was no improvement of characters that makes the fans care about them.
The only problem in this scenario is that the midcard wrestlers like Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin, Jack Swagger, The Miz have nothing to fight for. The WWE could always introduce another title like Television or European championship to make it more interesting.
Nevertheless, these are just rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt. Survivor Series is still less than two weeks away which means the WWE can always change their minds and go with a different plan.
