A website that shows uploaded pictures of gorgeous gentlemen on the London Underground train system has become a phenomenal hit in China, Mirror UK reported.
The Tube Crush website was put up to pay "Homage to the Hommes" via social media video sharing website YouTube. The website allows commuters upload photos of "attractive men" that has caught their attention during the transit.
It became a huge hit for Chinese netizens due to the emerging notion that English men are elegant, neat, clean and courteous.
The notion was supported by BBC's Chinese Service representative Ruhua Xianyu by confirming that when Chinese people think of British nationals, men in particular. They think of elegance, regal and being true gentlemen because of their good manners and politeness.
Majority of viewers from China are females who use the 'home-grown' micro-blogging website Sina Weibo in sharing the images of "attractive men" with those who shares the same interests, E Buzz Word reported. They also confirmed that a lone image can get a staggering 100,000 likes and shares.
Mirror UK interviewed the image sharing site's co-founder Stephen Motion and confirmed that China is their third biggest source of traffic. He also said that the website is not blocked in China and it is fully accessible and available in all the cities including Guangzhou and Shanghai.
Londoners on the other hand showed their concern that their "good looks" has resulted in an invasion of privacy and asks Tube Crush to take down the uploaded photos.
Neither Tube Crush nor its co-founder Stephen Motion has commented on the appeal to take down the uploaded pictures.
