Conor McGregor made history on Sunday when he became the first-ever UFC fighter to hold two belts from different divisions simultaneously. His amazing performance has awakened the talk of a possible boxing match Floyd Mayweather Jr. with sports analyst Skip Bayless believing that McGregor would come out of it as the winner.
"Notorious" defeated Eddie Alvarez with ease at UFC 205 in New York City to win the lightweight championship. His left hand stunned Alvarez and everyone who watched the fight as his power and accuracy was very impressive.
One of the people impressed by that left hand is Bayless, who said in his show UNDISPUTED on FOX Sports that Mayweather could lose to McGregor. He also thinks that the Irishman is the baddest man on the planet at the moment.
"I think Conor McGregor could beat Floyd Mayweather Jr., especially as he nears 40 years of age and has pillow fight punching power left in him, if that. I gotta tell ya, if Floyd watched, and I'm gonna guess that Floyd did watch this, I think there is no way we would risk entering the ring with McGregor," Bayless said.
"Not the Octagon, just the boxing ring, we're talking about boxing here. 12 oz. gloves. All Floyd's rules. Conservative, conventional boxing rules. I think that Conor McGregor would give him all he wanted," he added.
It was rumored earlier this year that McGregor and Mayweather are very interested in fighting each other. However, the talks went nowhere since each side wanted the bigger purse. Nevertheless, it is a fight that everyone wants to see whether inside the Octagon or a boxing ring.
Speaking of Mayweather, the 39-year-old boxing legend was fuming when he heard that McGregor is being compared to him. He went on a mini-rant during an ambush interview with TMZ Sports and bragged about his record.
Mayweather laid down all of his accomplishments from being a six-division champion, having a 49-0 record and called himself a living legend. He added that comparing McGregor to him is like comparing an elephant to an ant.
Both superstars are currently in the headlines with McGregor angling to get a stake in the UFC, as well as being courted by the WWE. On the other hand, Mayweather is rumored to be talking with Manny Pacquiao's representatives about a possible rematch in May.
