EXO-CBX has successfully debuted as EXO's sub-unit . The group recently placed first on Billboard's World Albums Chart and celebrated their first music show win as a unit at SBS MTV's "The Show" on Nov. 15.

EXO-CBX is composed of three out of nine original EXO members namely, Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin. Their debut album "Hey Mama!: The First Mini Album" started no. 1 in the World Albums chart with around 2,000 copies sold in the first week of its release, according to Billboard.

EXO-CBX has also released a music video for their funk-pop title track "Hey Mama!". The video is posted on SMTOWN Official YouTube page and has more than 16 million views as of the moment.

EXO-CBX's recent success is the third K-pop act with the "parent and sub-unit group" topping the World Albums Chart.

Billboard reported that Girls' Generation and its sub-unit trio TTS have two chart-toppers, whereas Super Junior and its Chinese-focused splinter group Super Junior-M have one. The music news website also learned that EXO, Girls' Generation and Super Junior are under the same South Korean agency, SM Entertainment.

Splinter groups or sub-units among groups usually happen in K-pop. As Billboard explained, "this is a common way for a K-pop group to show a different artistic side".

In addition to the World Albums chart, EXO CBX's "Hey Mama!" ranked 7th on the World Digital Songs chart. According to Billboard, the unit's title song became the "fifth most-downloaded K-pop song of the week during a particularly competitive period with many releases."

Last Tuesday, EXO-CBX won on SBS MTV's "The Show" for their debut single "Hey Mama!". The splinter group was nominated for the top spot alongside K-pop groups VIXX and T-ara. However, EXO-CBX emerged as the winner with 7936 points. T-ara placed second with 7050, while VIXX ranked third with 6774 points, Soompi reported.

The South Korean entertainment news website added that this was EXO-CBX's first show win as a splinter group.

The EXO unit also shared the stage with fellow member Lay who performed his solo debut single "Lose Control". Soompi revealed it was also Lay's special stage this week.
