Atletico Madrid has been struggling as of late with two losses in their last three games. The team is currently settled in the fourth spot of the Spanish top flight table, one point behind third-place squad Villarreal and six points away from league leaders Real Madrid.
Head coach Diego Simeone's squad succumbed to an upset loss to Real Sociedad, 0-2, on the road at the Anoeta Stadium during their most recent game on Nov. 5 before the international break, as per BBC Sport.
The game was scoreless in the first half until Mexican forward Carlos Vela broke the deadlock for Sociedad with a penalty kick in the 54th minute. The hosts doubled their lead in the 75th minute with another spot kick, this time coming from Brazilian forward Willian Jose.
It was a highly disappointing game for Los Colchoneros as they lost their place in the top three of the league following the stunning defeat.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid routed newly-promoted side Leganes, 3-0, at their home field of Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Nov. 6, AS English reported.
Welsh winger Gareth Bale scored the first two goals of the contest in the 38th minute and during the first half stoppage time to give Los Blancos a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Spanish striker Alvaro Morata sealed the win with a goal in the 76th minute, completing the three-goal haul of head coach Zinedine Zidane's men.
Real remained undefeated after 11 rounds of La Liga competitions and are currently on top of the league table, two points above arch-rivals and defending champions Barcelona.
