John Cena is currently out of WWE television to shoot the second season of his reality show "American Grit." The latest rumors imply that Cena is unhappy with the WWE because his return was pushed back by the returns of Bill Goldberg and The Undertaker.
The 39-year-old WWE superstar took a hiatus after the No Mercy pay-per-view last month but things have changed. Bill Goldberg has taken all the attention away on Monday Night Raw while The Undertaker made SmackDown Live more interesting.
The rumored return date of Cena will be on the December 26th Live Holiday Tour in New York City. However, it is possible that his next appearance on WWE television is going to be by January 2017 but he is reportedly unhappy about it.
According to Pro Wrestling Unlimited, Cena is unhappy that his scheduled return was pushed back. The reason for his return being delayed is due to The Undertaker returning to a more regular schedule. The report also made it clear that The Phenom was called back because of Cena's absence.
It should be noted that Mr. HLR has been very busy in the past couple of years due to outside projects. He has appeared in several films and hosted a couple of awards show. There are also some reports saying that Cena is going to have a cameo at the "Thor: Ragnarok" film.
Nevertheless, these are just purely speculative at this point and nothing has been confirmed. It is expected that Cena is going to work the Royal Rumble because the WWE wants to sell it out. His return will surely be advertised to attract more casual fans.
On the other hand, there are a lot of possibilities for Cena's opponent at WrestleMania 33. According to The Inquisitr, Baron Corbin is scheduled to face him at the event. However, a match with The Undertaker or A.J. Styles is also very possible.
The WWE might set up Cena to win his 16th WWE World championship at WrestleMania 33. The company can always book Styles very strong heading to the event but The Undertaker match might be more appealing.
There are a lot of conflicting reports regarding the real status of Cena. Nonetheless, the WWE is missing his star power but they better get used to it as more outside projects are expected to come. Check out the video below to see Cena made a surprise return at the 2008 Royal Rumble.
