The 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) is just one week away and with its looming date, new details are bound to come out. Wiz Khalifa, 29, is confirmed to be sharing the stage with a Kpop artist for a special performance.
At the press conference on Nov. 24, Thursday, CJ E&M's director Kang Hee Jung confirmed Khalifa would make a special appearance during the annual event. She then revealed that the rapper will have a collaborative performance with a Kpop artist. However, the identity of the Kpop artist has been kept under wraps for the time being.
"Wiz Khalifa is a singer who topped the Billboard Singles Hot 100 Chart with his song 'Black and Yellow'," Soompi quoted director Kang as saying before a predominantly Korean crowd. "He is well-known in Korea for his song 'See You Again,' which was part of the original soundtrack of the 'Fast and Furious' franchise."
In addition to Khalifa, EXO's Baekhyun and miss A's Bae Suzy are joining forces for a duet at the 2016 MAMA. The duo will be performing their collaboration track, dubbed "Dream," for the first time.
"There have been so many songs this year, but rather than a simple featuring, I think two different people collaborating is beautiful," said Director Kang. "I'm looking forward to seeing the beautiful, charming pair [together on stage]."
The news came after the nominees for this year's MAMA have been announced. Red Velvet, TWICE, Wonder Girls, MAMAMOO and GFRIEND have been nominated for the Best Female Group award, while EXO, BTS, Block B, iKON, SHINee, and INFINITE for the Best Male Group award.
Further, BLACKPINK's "Whistle", Dean's "Bonnie & Clyde", Gain's "Carnival (The Last Day)" Wonder Girls' "Why So Lonely", and BTS' "Blood Sweat & Tears" are vying for the Best Music Video award. The online voting will remain open until Dec. 1, The Kpop Herald reported.
The 2016 MAMA will take place at AsiaWorld Expo in Hong Kong on Dec. 2. The ceremony will simultaneously be broadcast live in Korea, Japan, America, Southeast Asia through various channels and live streaming services. More artists will be announced in the coming days.
