Sony Xperia X Performance users will now receive the highly-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update filled with new features. The update will gradually arrive OTA to users across all regions.
Android 7.0 Nougat version has been highly sought by those who are stuck in the current 6.0 Marshmallow or even 5.0 Lollipop versions. Sony is now bringing the update to their Xperia X Performance customers after a month of closed beta testing.
Sony Xperia X Perfomance smartphones with model numbers F8131 and F8132 will be able to get a hold of the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update, GSM Arena reported. The model number covers all international and United States versions that are unlocked.
Users can check for the OTA update if it is already available through Settings > About Device and tapping the Software Updates button. The OTA update normally appears as a push notification but some regions could receive it later compared to others.
Sony will also roll out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for their Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet and the Xperia Z5 series in the following weeks, NDTV reported. Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra users will also be granted the Nougat update in early 2017 although no exact release date has been given by the company.
Some Sony customers are still disappointed because the Xperia Z4, Xperia Z4v and the Xperia E5 will not be receiving the update anytime soon. What is worse is that they do not seem to be part of Sony's Nougat plans which could mean that they could be stuck at their current Android version.
Android 7.0 Nougat brings several improvements for smartphone users such as the better integration of Doze. Apps that are not actually used will be hibernated when the system detects that the phone is idle. It also has the new native split-screen windows across apps although users should note that some apps do not work with the multi-window setup.
Xperia X Performance users can expect the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update notification soon depending on where they are located. If they do not receive the notification, they can check for the update manually through the phone's Settings.
