The long wait is over as Sony is finally launching its Xperia Ear wearable voice assistant. Sony's new device will hit the market shelves in December with a price tag of $200.
Sony will be releasing the Xperia Ear via Amazon on December 13 just in time for a last-minute holiday gift, TechCrunch has learned. The said device will also be available on other retailers like Fry's, Abt and B&H.
Tagged at $200, the Xperia Ear is intended to contend with the likes of Amazon's Echo and Google Home. The device looks like an ordinary Bluetooth earpiece but it boasts powerful AI functionality through the digital assistant.
The hardware of this handset is powered by Sony's own Agent assistant. Its design delivers and functions aim to help the person that is always on the go. It can help with reminding the user of upcoming calendar events and alarms as well as with driving directions for a more hands-free experience
Sony's Xperia Ear is a lightweight earpiece that is made to fit comfortably with the user's ear with a design that would fit most average people, Android Central reported. Its tiny Graphite Black casing is fully packed as Sony has built-in an accelerometer, gyroscope, and proximity sensors that will allow the Xperia Ear to turn itself on automatically once inserted.
It also lets the users to use head gesture commands such as a quick nod to authorize thanks to the built-in sensors. This was basically very comparable to the idea of the Moto Hint from Motorola.
The Xperia Ear arrives with numerous ear bud tips to find the user's comfortable fit and along with a storage case that doubles as a charger with a 300 mAh battery. The device itself is armed with a 65 mAh battery that is capable of 4 hours of talk time and 80 hours of standby.
Sony's Xperia Ear is NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 compliant, and will be well-matched with any smartphone running Android 4.4 through the Xperia Ear app. There is no news on whether it will be available for the iOS but that seems to be a small possibility.
