"Stranger Things" Season 2 is officially happening, and while the show has confirmed the addition of new characters and the return of Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, there is another aspect of the show that fans are dying to know about: the Jonathan-Nancy-Steve love triangle.
"Stranger Things" Season 2 spoilers confirm that the show will delve deeper into the history and inner workings going around the Upside Down. More of the supernatural side of the show will also be uncovered, particularly the effect of the Upside Down to those whose been there such as Will Byers, Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper.
Much of the tribute to 80s and 90s high school love stories were delivered by Jonathan, Nancy and Steve's love triangle. Nancy Wheeler (Natalie Dyer) chose high school hottie Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), who eventually redeemed himself by the end of Season 1 after being such a jerk to Nancy in the middle of the show. But is Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Nancy really endgame?
According to TV Guide, David Harbour revealed at the New York Comic Con that the first couple of scripts for "Stranger Things" Season 2 reveal that the love triangle is still very much alive. "Even when I was watching [Season 1] I felt torn. They both were so three dimensional... There will be more of that for seasons to come," Harbour said.
Brown, on the other hand, had her own theory about what would happen to the love birds. "Anything can happen," Brown shared. "But I'm okay with [Steve and Nancy]. I just think Jonathan... Imagine if Barb came back and Jonathan and Barb were dating. That would be incredible."
Unfortunately for Brown's theory about Jonathan and Barb, the show's creators have confirmed that Barb, played by Shannon Purser, will not return in "Stranger Things" Season 2.
Many of the fans, however, are still rooting for Jonathan to end up with Nancy. In the "Stranger Things" Season 1 finale, Nancy gave Jonathan a camera to replace the one that Steve destroyed. She then gave him a kiss on the cheek and fans knew then that there are still sparks between the two friends. The Wrap also posits that since Jonathan and Nancy were the ones to team up against the demogorgon, the two already have a very strong connection.
"Stranger Things" Season 2 premieres in 2017 on Netflix.
