Hong Kong film gurus have recently recognized some top actors and actresses, including Chinese singer-actress Vicki Zhao and Hong Kong-born actor Sean Lau, during the 21st Hong Kong Film Critics’ Society Awards.
Veteran actress Hee Ching Paw handed the awards to the top 10 films as well as individuals who won in different categories during the awards.
Vicki Zhao, who was also known as Zhao Wei, was renowned for her performance in the movie "Dearest," while Lau was handed the Best Actor award for the second time after he starred in the film "Overheard 3."
According to Yahoo News Singapore, the 51-year-old actor had not expected to be recognized a second time by the award-giving body and admitted that he did not feel very confident about his performance.
"The last time I won it here [Critics Society], I did not win the HKFA award. So, it is out of my control," said the actor, who made a name after he starred in the hit business-related drama "The Greed of Man" in 1992.
He also told the audience of the Hong Kong Film Critics' Society Awards that he felt both guilty and lucky about winning the award since all the members of the cast performed very well, though he made it a point to celebrate his victory with his wife Amy Kwok over dinner.
His co-stars Kenneth Tsang and Alex Fong were also nominated during the event.
Meanwhile, pop-star-turned-filmmaker Vicki Zhao, who is also considered as one of the "Four Dan Actresses," explained that she felt a bit pressured and challenged with her role as a plain farmer in her latest film "Dearest," and noted that aside from her skills in acting, luck also helped her win during the event.
