The latest details for "Street Fighter 5" will feature brand new characters, Akuma's skill set and possible in-game balance changes in the sequel.
Several rumors are making rounds regarding the possible next batch of DLC characters in "Street Fighter 5" as EvenHubs created a survey as to whether players want the next fighters to be returning and old classics or brand new ones.
Capcom announced Akuma as the next DLC character this month along with other fighters that will be revealed next year. These characters include C. Viper, Sagat, Sodom, Q, Rose, Abel and Oro, while a possible new character named Eisbahn is being teased in the game.
Meanwhile, Capcom also announced several in-game balances for "Street Fighter 5" for next year. Peter "ComboFiend" Rosas wrote in a post on Capcom Unity stating that Capcom had noticed that there are a few particularly strong mechanics in "Street Fighter 5" that resulted in players using them more than the unique attacks each character has at their disposal.
This led players, both the attacker and the one being attacked, to have a similar experience regardless of which characters were being used. Rosas believes by reducing each character's similarities, Capcom can allow players to fully express themselves through their favourite characters, further providing the "Street Fighter" experience players have come to know and love.
While Capcom did not provide much further details on the balances, here are a few key preview of tha what the changes they are going to make in "Strete Fighter 5", which include Recovery After Successful Throws, Strong Anti-Air Light Attacks and Invincible Reversal Reliance.
Lastly, Capcom streamed a new character trailer for "Street Fighter 5" featuring the skill set of Akuma. Akuma returns to the sequel, sees him displaying his mastery of Ansatsuken and while he has become burlier than previous titles.
Akuma possesses quick footwork and devastating combos. He has a wide array of destructive tools and is able to completely out-class opponents with his oppressive pressure. His moves and stances often strike poses reminiscent of Buddhist statues and Ukiyo-e paintings.
The V-Skill Akuma uses is called "Rakan", which strikes a defensive stance and similar to Ryu’s Mind’s Eye, can parry an incoming attack. He can follow up the move with an upward kick or a long reaching palm strike.
Akuma's V-Trigger is called "Dohatsu Shoten" which powers up the latter enveloping him dangerous ki. In this form, Akuma's Gohadokens are more powerful, now able to travel full-screen and he can unleash two in the air even while jumping backwards. Additionally, when he lands his Goshoryuken attack, he follows-up and violently drives his opponents into the ground.
Lastly, Akuma will have two Critical Arts in the game. First is "Sekia Koretsuha", which Akuma channels a powerful amount of ki in his palm and drives it on the ground, striking the opponent with an exploding pillar of fierce energy.
Next is his famous "Shun Goku Satsu" which can be used when Akuma is in Dohatsu Shoten mode. He glides towards the opponent and grabs them, resulting in a series of devastating strikes in the blink of an eye.
Akuma will be available on Dec. 20 as the update will also include his story content and the Premium Battle and Nostalgia outfits. Capcom has also revealed that five other characters will follow Akuma in 2017. A season pass to unlock all six characters as they are released goes on sale on Dec. 20 for $29.99. Season pass holders get an exclusive PS4 theme as well.
"Street Fighter 5" is currently available for the PlayStation 4 and PC platforms.
