With the impending end of the year 2016, Tumblr released its list of most influential Kpop groups. The social networking site's "Fandometrics" system identified BTS and EXO as its top two South Korean acts for 2016.
BTS and EXO both received several accolades over the year with their various hit songs and albums. Given the two all-male groups' various activities in South Korea, Asia and other parts of the world, both bands landed a spot on Tumblr's 2015 most influential Kpop groups.
Given Tumblr's Fandometrics system, the said microblogging site named BTS as its top Kpop group followed by EXO who landed at second place. Other South Korean bands who made it to Tumblr's list included GOT7, Seventeen and Shinee who nabbed the third to fifth spots, respectively.
VIXX came in at number six, followed by B.A.P., MONSTA X, NCT and Bigbang. Meanwhile, iKON nabbed the eleventh spot, followed by the Kpop girl groups Girls Generation, Red Velvet, TWICE and f(x).
At the bottom part of Tumblr's 2016 Top Kpop groups are MAMAMOO and INFINITE who landed at number 16 and number 17, respectively. The recently disbanded Kpop girl group 2NE1 ranked at number 18, while BLACKPINK and Block B nabbed the last two spots on the said list.
Meanwhile, to come up with the list, Tumblr's Fandometrics used a scientific method where it collated the number of times that various Kpop groups' names were searched or mentioned in the said social networking site. Apart from the said criteria, it also looked at the online activities of the South Korean bands' respective fan communities.
In other news, BTS' popularity in 2016 landed the Kpop group a spot in two of Billboard's year-end charts namely the World Albums Artist and World Albums list. The boy band nabbed the fifth place on Billboard's World Albums Artist chart for 2016.
Moreover, the Kpop group's two albums also made it to Billboard's year-end Worlds Albums chart. "Wings" landed at number six, while BTS' EP "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt.2" landed at number nine.
