On July 22, torrent users suffered a major loss when authorities took down Kickass Torrents and seized its domain. The owner of the notorious torrent site was also later arrested in Poland by the United States department of justice and taken to court.
According to Earn Spree, he was charged with distribution of $1 billion worth of copyrighted materials. Official KAT domains like kat.cr, kickass.to, kickasstorrents.com, kat.ph, thekat.tv, and kastatic were also seized in an effort to cripple down the KAT network.
Since then, KAT users were stranded. Some were lucky to discover new torrent sites while others kept on landing on fake sites. However, according to Torrent Freak, there still exists Kickass Torrents mirrors and clones that are still working remarkably and which surprisingly duplicate the services and interface of the original KAT site. Here are such five sites:
1. Kickasstop.net
This Kickass Torrents clone has all its functionalities and design matching up with those of the parent site. It has a list of the latest movie torrents, TV shows, music, games, anime, and application torrents.
2. Katcr.to
An amazingly crafted Kickass Torrents lookalike, Katcr.to harbors the likes of "Family Guy," "Fear the Walking Dead," "Game of Thrones," and "One upon a Time." Its main torrent subcategories apart from movies include books, games, apps, anime, and music.
3. Kickass.cd
Kickass.cd is a torrent search engine that uses Kickass Torrents' database. The database itself might not be the one KAT used originally, although there are a lot of commonalities. This site welcomes every torrent enthusiast with daily quotes and social media sharing links for Twitter and Facebook.
4. Kat.how
Kat.how is an exact duplicate of the original KickAss Torrents site. Its functionality and interface are all one and the same with KAT and it offers the same initial categories. IsoHunt manages its updates and, therefore, its torrents are always fresh.
5. Kat.al
Kat.al is another Kickass Torrents clone with the same tone of the original site. On using the link, one is regularly redirected to katproxy.al, which is an extra link that torrent fans can use to access the same clone.
Evidently, the five KAT clones have so much in common with the original site that it gives an impression that the site never vanished completely. A consecutive visit to each one consolidates all their functionalities and torrents, only proving that Kickass Torrents is living behind the curtains.
