China has a good number of awards and film festivals to recognize excellence in the movie and television industry. The list includes the Hundred Flower Awards, the Gold Aries Macau International Filmfest and the Huading Awards.
The Huading Awards is a little bit different than the other awards because where it is held changes every year. Past venues include Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China. For 2016, the Huading Awards, organized by the Tianxia Yingcai Cultural Media, has Hollywood celebrities attending the event, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The event would be held on Dec. 15, Thursday, at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Among the Hollywood celebrities who would attend Huading Awards are Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, Johnny Depp, Wiz Khalifa and Hilary Swank.
Huading Awards are given to talents from all entertainment fields, not just to movies of television. It includes theater, pop music and traditional Chinese opera to performances and productions done or shown the past year, and nominees are not just from China.
Winners are not determined by a set of jurors but popular votes cast on its website and internet portals in China, making a lot of winners populist choices. But the nominees are selected by a jury.
For 2016, the nominees for best global picture include “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Fast & Furious 7” and “The Martian.” The 11 categories include best global picture, best global newcomer and best global action choreography, Variety reported.
Previous winners include Nicholas Cage, Quentin Tarantino, Chris Hemsworth, Hale Berry, Jeremy Irons and Nicole Kidman. Because the Huading Awards night had been live streamed by LeTV the past years and aired as a delayed telecast on local and provincial TV stations across China, the 2013 event was viewed by around 800 million people, mostly Chinese.
