Sony's mighty PlayStation 4 Pro does not only shoot ahead of the Xbox One S in terms of performance but also beats many gaming PCs in its price range. This is according to several reviews and tests carried out by prominent gaming personalities.
In fact, the PS4 Pro is deemed to be so powerful that it would take a $900 gaming PC to compete with it. In an interview with WCCFTECH, Co-founder and lead programmer of Studio Wildcard Jeremy Stieglitz had several things to say about the "ARK: Survival Evolved" in line with the performance of the PS4 Pro.
The game is reportedly expected to launch on Sony's console after being released on Xbox One and PC earlier through early access programs. When Stieglitz was questioned about PS4 Pro's performance, he said that its GPU is the equivalent of a $300 graphics card.
"Very impressed with its performance, at a very reasonable price. We estimate it would cost at least $900 to build a similarly powerful PC, and that's if you were custom-building it with extreme cost control," said Stieglitz. He estimated that PS4 Pro's raw GPU performance was indeed similar to that of an NVIDIA 970.
Considering several other CPU improvements, it would cost a gamer around $900 to build a PC with an NVIDIA 970 and according to Stieglitz, that is a reasonably high benchmark for the performance of PlayStation 4 Pro and a console for that matter. Other former comparisons have found the PC more powerful, but that is if gamers are ready to accommodate huge budgets.
According to Game Rant, the PlayStaton 4 Pro boasts 4.2 Teraflops of GPU performance and 4K video quality. Microsoft's Xbox Scorpio, set to debut in 2017, will come with the same video quality capabilities along with 6 Teraflops of computing power.
While these sound like impressive specs, the gaming community will undoubtedly be anxious to see how they compare to gaming PCs in the future. As of now, budget gamers should at least consider the PlayStation 4 Pro before buying a gaming PC.
