Game director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that the development of "Kingdom Hearts III" is still on track despite the ongoing works on "Kingdom Hearts 2.8." Apparently, the release of the former will not be affected by the upcoming release of the latter.
This is according to a recent interview held with Dengeki PlayStation, where Nomura said that the arrival is on track. Notably, in the years that followed the revelation of "Kingdom Hearts III," fans of the series have been in the know regarding a few remasters of previous titles capping in "Hearts 2.8."
Now as it seems, even though these projects were handled at Square Enux, Nomura's statement implies that he does not view them as a distraction to the development of other games. He said, "In light of the remastered versions, it does not affect the progress of Kingdom Hearts III, and the amount of staff falls into a good number."
Nomura later recapped that "Kingdom Hearts" fans should be in the know concerning the subject of the game's development as well as its timing for the announcement. As for when it will arrive, however, the director failed to reveal anything, musing that he would release new information about "Kingdom Hearts II" along with that of "Kingdom Hearts 2.8."
Beyond this hint of progress, Nomura's interview did not go deeper into the details of "Kingdom Hearts III." Previous reports in June had pointed out that the game would arrive in January 2017 or spring. But, according to Gematsu, since everything is now on track, players can anticipate more updates on Jan. 12, 2017 during the release of "Kingdom Hearts 2.8."
In the meantime, Hikaru Utada is working on "Kingdom Hearts III" music. This information was first revealed by her father Teruzane Utada, who tweeted in response to a user enquiring about Hikaru's involvement in "Kingdom Hearts III."
