Members of a streaming site worldwide became fans of several anime series this year, as a lot of new series proved to be captivating to say the least. However, the anime-streaming service reveals the top anime viewed in each country, and the results turned out to be surprising.
While the romantic ice skating anime "Yuri!!! On Ice" became one of the most popular anime since its premiere this fall, "Re: Zero - Starting Life in Another World" still took the top spot among the audience of Crunchy Roll. A casual glance on their platform metrics reveals that "Re: Zero" is a big deal.
It can be seen in Japan, as well as North and South America, Europe, and the world in general has given "Re: Zero" much attention. After all, the plot of the anime revolves around Subaru, a shut-in who gets trapped in a magical world, and his love for video games enable him to establish save points in order to stay alive.
"Yuri!!! On Ice," still challenges "Re: Zero" in terms of global dominance, as it comes as a close second in terms of worldwide popularity. The romantic ice skating anime still takes the title for being one of the most tweeted-about anime of fall 2016, Anime News Network has learned. It had nearly 1.5 million posts about it from Nov. 24 to Dec. 14, with fans praising its unique storyline about a passionate young skater named Yuri Katsuki and his coach, Viktor Nikiforov.
Running on a close third is the next big name in the shonen battle series genre "Twin Star Exorcists." The story of this anime revolves around Rokuro Enmado, who is given the Twin Star Exorcist title along with Benio Adashino, despite the former's unwillingness to become an exorcist. Together they fight against the Impurities and protect the world.
Regardless, it will be interesting for anime fans to see the anime that will take the top spots in 2017. Here is a "Re: Zero - Starting Life in Another World" trailer:
