When the Switch was first unveiled, Nintendo also revealed the list of third-party developers supporting the system. Amongst them was Electronic Arts, the same publishing company for Bioware. Despite this, Bioware producer Mike Gamble reveals that the upcoming "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is not currently planned to launch on the Switch.
Gamble explained that the current generation of consoles gave the developers more options, he explained in an interview with Stevivor. Specifically, he pointed out that "Mass Effect: Andromeda" could render things more realistically than what the original trilogy could do on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
"You look up the windscreen of the Tempest, and space is rendered in front of you 180 degrees. If you go to the back of the Tempest, you'll see that the star that's behind the ship is actually there, reflecting light beautifully on the conference room in the Tempest. Then, as you fly to a different area with a black hole, you see that effects things differently," he stated.
He then quickly shot down any chances of the game getting a port on the Switch. Gamble stated that there were no plans as of the moment but the doors were still open. A Switch version of "Mass Effect: Andromeda" could still be released if the Switch was successful and there was a high demand for a port.
Bioware taking precautions with the Nintendo Switch comes as no surprise given that the last Nintendo console, the Wii U, was a financial flop, Game Rant reported. "Mass Effect 3" did release for the Wii U but the console's low sales would also indicate that this port did not meet Bioware's expectations.
It was not just the Switch that was not yet planned out. Gamble further explained that Bioware had no plans yet for the Xbox Scorpio, particularly since the upgraded Xbox One was not coming out until late this year.
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" releases this year for the PC, Xbox One and PS4. The official trailer can be viewed below:
