Despite the controversy surrounding "No Man's Sky," it is still one of the top-selling games on Steam. The game beats other titles in terms of sales and reached the highest tier for it.
According to Steam Website, "No Man's Sky" is in the Platinum tier of the 2016 Top 100 Best-selling games. It goes side-by-side with some of the biggest titles of the year, such as "Tom Clancy's The Division," "Fallout 4," "Rocket League," and more.
"No Man's Sky" stands out in the list, as the space exploration game has been one of the most hyped-up titles, with its fan interest spanning a few years. Gamers certainly waited for its release, but once it did, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing games in recent refund requests.
However, despite the fact that the game had its own failings, "No Man's Sky" still counts as a financial success for Hello Games, according to the list. With this, it certainly presents a clear example demonstrating the disadvantages of pre-ordering games. The hype and excitement surrounding the game certainly resulted to incredible pre-order and first-day sales, which helped contribute to the game's "Platinum" level of bestseller in Steam.
Once players caught wind of the severely lacking features that it was advertised, the sales immediately plummeted. It has not recovered even to this day, and as such even the future of the game's sales, as well as any games coming from the developer, will certainly be affected negatively.
Meanwhile, according to Game Rant, some of the games that were highly rated did not fare well with Steam's best sellers. "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" barely got into the Bronze tier while "Watch Dogs 2," "Skyrim Remastered," and "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" made it to Silver tier. Finally, "DOOM" and "Stardew Valley" got into the Gold tier just below "No Man's Sky."
"No Man's Sky" is available for the PC and PS4 consoles. Here is a video for the "No Man's Sky" Foundation update.
