ASUS Zenwatch 2 and Zenwatch 3 owners will finally receive a major update. It is not the Android Wear 2.0 update that most smartwatch owners have been waiting for but it does offer improvements.
Most of changes include bug fixes and there are really no new game-changing features for both the Zenwatches. One of the improvements is for the stability of the Bluetooth and WiFi connection. Some users have been complaining that their wireless connections would sometimes drop or fail to reconnect and ASUS means to fix that with the new update.
Zenwatch 3 will also receive the new themes with watchfaces as well as more language translations for non-English speakers, Android Community has learned. There is also a new button for user customization and an ECO mode setting to save more battery life.
Possibly the most crucial part of the Zenwatch update is the December security fix. It addresses several vulnerabilities that are present on the smartwatches to prevent hackers from exploiting them and gaining access to the device.
Once a hacker does get access to the smartwatch, they can extract sensitive data or even use it to enter their smartphones since it can be tethered. Zenwatch 2 users will only receive the December security fix update, Android Police reported.
Google themselves have not yet announced when the Android Wear 2.0 update will be released. They are currently busy fixing issues with their Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones particularly the one with the unique serial number vulnerability.
ASUS Zenwatch 2 and Zenwatch 3 owners do not need to plug their devices in to a computer in order to update. The company rolled out the new update OTA and all the users have to do is to connect to a fast and stable Wi-Fi hotspot to download. They should also make sure that they have enough battery life for the duration of the update.
