Square-Enix and Team Ninja recently revealed that the "Dissidia: Final Fantasy" arcade fighting game is getting a brand new character. The identity of the new character will be unveiled at 9 PM Japan Time on Jan. 10, Tuesday.
The developers made the announcement on the Nico live streaming network and the identity of the new character will be shown on the same site. Like previous new characters, the reveal will include cinematic footage of the character's introduction as well as gameplay footage to showcase his or her abilities.
Following the reveal trailer, there will be a Q&A session that will include producer Ichiro Hazama, director Takeo Kujiraoka and PR lead Yuki Mizuno, Dual Shockers reported. During this portion more information will be given about the character and further updates for the game.
Although Square-Enix did not specify who the new character is going to be it is noted that the most likely choice is Noctis, the main character from the recently released "Final Fantasy XV." Aranea, also from the same game, is a popular alternative.
Kujiraoka previously stated that if Noctis were to be added to the game, it would only be after "Final Fantasy XV" launched. The game has already released worldwide for the PS4 and Xbox One, indicating that it is time for Noctis to join the fighting game's roster.
Some of the most recent additions to the game include Ramza Beoulve from "Final Fantasy Tactics," Y'shotal from "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" and Ace from "Final Fantasy Type-0." Of the original roster, only four are playable villains and this list includes Sephiroth, Kefka and Garland.
"Dissidia: Final Fantasy" originally released for arcades in Japan on Nov. 26, 2015. No North American version has yet been released although the developers and publishers did confirm that a home console version will come out in a year's time. No release date for the home port, which will likely launch internationally, has yet been announced.
