Chinese clubs are not the only ones willing to spend an extraordinary amount of money to get their desired player. A number of clubs all over the world, especially in Europe, are also looking to splash the cash to aid in their attempts to sign the missing piece in their squad. Most of these clubs will pay top dollar for a player they believe would help them mount a title challenge this season.
French club Paris Saint-Germain have been known to do this, which is part of the reason why they have dominated Ligue 1 for the past couple of seasons. Transfer rumors are now suggesting that they are prepared to spare no expense in their attempts to sign Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez this winter. PSG may make a move for the Chilean forward this month, but it is more likely that they will attempt to sign him at a cheaper price in the summer.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is also making to make a number of moves this January in order to shore up his team's shaky back line. His first-choice target to quell this problem is Southampton center back Virgil van Dijk, but he may face stiff competition from other big clubs to get the Dutchman's signature. Guardiola may also have problems in signing van Dijk due to the fact that Southampton will be looking to hold on to him following Jose Fonte handing in a transfer request.
Both of these clubs have contingency plans though. If Guardiola fails to sign van Dijk, he will then look to sign Holger Badstuber from his old club Bayern Munich, according to the Telegraph. On the other hand, if van Dijk does leave then Southampton will take advantage of Mamadou Sakho's lack of playing time to lure him from Anfield to St. Mary's.
The red side of Manchester United has begun their transfer dealings early though, as it is believed that Swedish center back Victor Lindelof will officially be unveiled as a Manchester United player in the coming days. The Swede has already received praise from potential teammate and countryman Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Manchester United will pay around £38 million for his services, according to the Mirror.
