A lot of big things are happening in "Shadowhunters" Season 2. Aside from the war waged between Valentine and The Clave, there will be shifts in the characters' relationships this season. Here's the lowdown on what will happen to the popular ships on the show.
Magnus and Alec
Magnus (Harry Shum, Jr.) and Alec (Matthew Daddario), or Malec to the fans, went all out on their relationship in the later part of the first season by sealing it with a kiss. While things went really fast for the couple in Season 1, they will go through a restart in the sophomore season of "Shadowhunters."
"We realized in season two we needed to start from the beginning, because they have this kiss at a wedding ... It's almost like 'The Graduate.' Now it's, like, 'Well, now what?'" showrunners Slavkin and Swimmer tells Empire.
However, that is not to say that fans will be seeing less of Malec on screen. The show will continue to explore their relationship, especially since Magnus has a lot to learn from Alec and vice versa.
Simon and Clary
Although Simon and Clary have always had a brother and sister-like relationship, it was evident from the start of "Shadowhunters" Season 1 that Simon harbored romantic feelings for his best friend. Simon has tried several times before to tell Clary how he truly feels about her, but something always seems to get in the way. All that might change in "Shadowhunters" Season 2 as they both learn more about the shadow world together.
"What's great about Simon and Clary this season is now that they're both cemented in the shadow world, they are learning -- they're both fledglings in an equal sense," Kat McNamara tells Screener TV. "They're learning how to handle their new abilities and how to find their place in this world, and it brings them closer together again. It's nice to see that friendship again."
When asked if Simon will finally confess to Clary, McNamara played coy and simply said, "We'll see."
Clary and Jace
Jace is going to be in a dark place in "Shadowhunters" Season 2. After deciding to side with his father, Valentine, he feels as though he is an outcast among the shadowhunters and the downworlders. Before learning that Valentine is his father, Jace was so sure of himself and his role in the shadow world. Everything changed when he found out about Valentine.
Jace's inner conflict is expected to put a toll on his relationship with Clary. Actor Dominic Sherwood teases that Jace's feelings for Clary is still "in the forefront of his mind."
