Lee Sung Kyung, 26, is sure on cloud nine. Following the heartwarming finale of MBC's "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo," the lead actress said she felt extremely blessed to explore different roles in her career.
On Jan. 12, Thursday, Lee showed up alongside her "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" co-stars at a press conference to mark the end of the coming-of-age sports drama. There, the former stated that she had been blessed to play a warm and lovable character on-screen.
"After expressing hurtful emotions all the time with my past characters, it felt nice to act a character that the script revolved around," Soompi quoted Lee as saying during an interview at Cafe Kkumer in Hapjeong-Dong, Seoul. "Until now, I've been playing characters that were scarred due to lack of love, like Baek In Ha ('Cheese in the Trap') and Oh So Nyeo ('It's Okay, That's Love')."
This time, however, the model-turned-actress' character received so much positivity and love from others. She then reiterated that she was so happy to see how charming and loved Kim Bok Joo is.
Despite its single-digit audience ratings in South Korea, the 16-episode coming-of-age sports drama won the hearts of the audiences across the globe due to its refreshing storyline and youthful charm. The series received praise for the sincerity of each dialogue and highlighting the freshness of puppy love.
"Everyone has a youth," Kim Bok Joo said in a voice-over during the show's finale. "It's a time when people shine more brightly even if they stumble... I'm still imperfect, but in some ways, couldn't be more perfect."
Following "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo's" end, "Missing 9" is set to take over MBC's Wednesday-Thursday timeslot starting Jan. 18, according to Korean newsoutlet ET News. It recounts the story of a startling plane crash that causes a widespread panic due to the disappearance of nine entertainers from Legend Entertainment.
