Manny Pacquiao may have long term plans even after he hangs his boxing gloves as the boxing champion aims to be president of the Philippines.
Coach Freddie Roach sits with USA Today and casually said that Pacquiao will go on in his boxing career until he is eligible to run for president. According to the Philippine Constitution, presidential candidates should be at least 40 years old. Pacquiao is 36.
It seemed that the prime boxer is on the right track as he is a representative of the congress of the country when he is not inside the ring.
Meanwhile, Roach also rebutt the speculations that Pacquiao will chicken out in his much-awaited bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2. He said that the pressure is greater on Floyd's side as it is hard to maintain his untarnished record of 47 wins and 0 loss.
Although feeling pressured as well, Roach noted that Mayweather's age is a critical factor as he recently turned 38 last month and his age already affected his previous matches.
The official ring tactician of Pacquiao's camp also subtly revealed some of their strategies to win the highly anticipated fight in boxing history. He said that it is critical that Pacquiao will win the first round and dictates the course of the fight. Moreover, they plan to take Mayweather out of his comfort zone, although he did not elaborate much on that.
Forbes reported that aside from sparring and exchange of punches, the match will also include mind games between the two boxers.
The fight of the century is already set on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
