"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 will feature a between Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Alex (Justin Chambers), but this does not mean that they will be together again romantically.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Luddington admitted that she is still rooting for Jo and Alex to be together. However, the actress also knows that they have a very complicated and toxic relationship.
"I am team JoLex, but they are just so messy. And with the midseason finale, it was really difficult to film. I am really rooting for them. I know he is doing this for her. It is a dramatic return," she said.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Luddington also revealed that she thinks Jo's abusive ex-husband will be introduced in the upcoming episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13. After all, the yet-to-be-cast character played a crucial role in molding Jo into who she is today.
"I feel like it is a thunderstorm that is on its way. I imagine it will happen at some point. I am almost wondering if it will happen more when she is at a point where it is a little more calm because she is in a lot of turmoil about Alex and everything that has happened; it kind of destroys her. So I think when it gets calm, maybe he will show up," she said.
Luddington's statements triggered speculations that if someone from Jo's past can be introduced on the show, Jo should also meet Alex's ex, Izzie (Katherine Heigl). Alex needed a very long time to move on from Izzie, and he did not get into any relationships after their break up. It was only after he met Jo that he took the risk again and fell in love.
However, "Grey's Anatomy" executive producer Shonda Rhimes previously slammed reports that Heigl will return to the series. The actress said that she is up for a possible reunion between Izzie and Alex if her schedule permits. Rhimes and Heigl ended their friendship after a major issue during one of the awards shows.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 will return to ABC on Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. EST.
