The recent Nintendo Switch Presentation did not yield any hints of a new upcoming "Metroid" game. However, if the statements made by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime are to be believed, it is possible that a future game will still come to the new Nintendo Switch.
In an interview with Game Spot at a Nintendo Switch hands-on event in New York City, Fils-Aime remarked about his fondness with games such as "Metroid" and "Mother 3," which is also known as "EarthBound" in North America. He teased that it could be possible that a new "Metroid" game may be announced.
Fils-Aime is still one of the most prominent executives in Nintendo and if anyone at the company knew about a new "Metroid" game, it would be him, according to Game Rant. It is most likely for him to know a lot about the projects being developed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch console.
The fact that the primary studio responsible for developing "Metro" is based in North America could support Fils-Aime's knowledge in terms of the current title the developer is working on. It is already known that Retro is currently at work developing a new game.
In the past, the "Metroid" titles were consistently successful. Thus , it makes sense that Nintendo trusts the developer enough to work on a new game for the Nintendo Switch.
Also, the Retro has been quite silent after releasing its last game, "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze," and as such it is high time for them to announce a new "Metroid" game. This is especially true after the fact that the title skipped the less-than-stellar Wii U console completely.
"Metroid" has yet to be unannounced, but it could be in development for the Nintendo Switch. Here is a video about some facts about the game:
