"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 has not yet returned to ABC, but its fate for the next three years seems to have already been sealed.
According to Cosmopolitan, it is highly likely that "Grey's Anatomy" will be renewed for Seasons 14 and 15 since the series continues to receive impressive ratings on a weekly basis.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, ABC president Channing Dungey already confirmed that "Grey's Anatomy" has already been renewed for Season 14. Even though Season 15 has not yet been finalized, Dungey is positive that the series will still be a go a year from now.
"That would be lovely! I would take even more! Honestly, I think that the show is going to continue as long as creator Shonda Rhimes and the gang have a creative passion for telling those stories. At the moment, it feels like we are full steam ahead," she said.
Meanwhile, Dungey also weighed in on what she thinks Rhimes should do to keep fans tuned in. "What Shonda and the team at 'Grey's' have really been able to do over time is continue to bring in new characters that give the series additional life and energy while remaining true to the core cast of characters," she said.
More specifically, Dungey said that she noticed a lot of the fans have become most interested in knowing the real status between Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Alex (Justin Chambers). She suggests that this is a storyline worth exploring in the upcoming seasons.
However, "Grey's Anatomy" executive producer Betsy Beers previously said that Alex and Meredith will not become a couple. While speaking with E! News, she explained that even though there are a lot of fans rooting for Meredith and Alex to be together, there are also fans who want Alex and Jo's relationship to work out.
"But then there are also so many Alex-Jo fans - like, the Alex-Jo fans are crazyballs! So it is nice - there is a little bit of something for everybody right now," she said.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 will return to ABC with episode 10 on Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. EST.
