Blocking contacts in iOS 10: How to block calls and messages from annoying contacts

Not all calls on the phone are welcomed and the good thing is that iOS 10 users can block certain contacts from calling them or sending them a message. Whether users want to avoid the persistent sales agent who is determined to make a sale or a hater who consistently send unpleasant messages, Apple offers a feature that lets its users screen contacts.

Blocking contacts via phone settings

There are two ways on how a user can block a certain individual from contacting him or her, according to Popsugar. To block a contact, iOS 10 users need to navigate to their Settings and search for the Call Blocking and Identification option, which gives the Block Contact option. Once there, all contacts will be displayed and users simply need to tap on the name they choose to block.

In cases where an iOS 10 user wants to block a non-contact from sending a message or calling, it only takes navigating to the Phone application and tap on Recents. There should be a list of numbers that recently contacted the user. Tap on the number and there should be an "i" in a circle displayed. Tap on that as well and there should be a list of drop-down options; select the Block This Contact option. That certain contact will now be included in a list of blocked numbers.

As noted, blocking contacts on iOS 10 is one-sided, which means that users can still contact numbers that are on the Blocked list. If the user is intent on cutting off communication with a certain individual, it is best to just delete the contact.

Blocking contacts using applications

Meanwhile, there is also the option of using an app that blocks numbers and contacts. According to MacWorld, three apps have been tested to work excellently in blocking calls and messages from certain contacts.

One is a free app called Hiya and another is a free app from AT&T called Call Protect but it is designed for its subscribers. The third one is a paid app with a subscription fee of $1.99. These apps can conveniently whitelist certain numbers so that those that are not included are blocked from sending messages or making calls to the iOS 10 user.
