Several celebrities, such as TV presenter Simon Cowell, have been victims of theft. Chinese actress Cecilia Cheung was just added to the list.
The culprit was her 30-year-old Indonesian domestic helper Rospeni who stole valuables worth HK$561,400. The maid was going through financial problems and was tempted to steal the items which the actress just leave lying around in her apartment in Century Tower in Central, China Entertainment News reported.
28 Items Taken but Recovered
Rospeni admitted taking two diamonds, three pairs of earrings, six rings, three pairs of shoes, four necklaces, three handbags, five bracelets and some pendants from Cecilia Cheung from her bathroom, bedroom and living room. She stole them between February and March.
The 28 items were found in Rospeni’s luggage by the assistant of the actress on June 28 when the domestic helper was supposed to leave the actress’ employment. The Indonesian woman, who worked for Cecilia Cheung for more than two year since March 2014, was arrested, Nextshark reported.
Even if Hong Kong District Court Judge Frankie Yiu Fun-che acknowledged that the items were recovered and Rospeni was tempted because of her financial situation, he nevertheless gave the domestic helper 18 months jail term since theft is a serious crime.
Reneged on Movie Contract?
In May 2016, the shoe was on the other foot since the actress was being accused of stealing HK$32 million from a film contract. According to Malayonline, mysterious flyers spread in Hong Kong signed a movie contract but allegedly did not fulfill her end of the agreement.
The flyers did not identify the movie contract that Cecilia Cheung allegedly reneged, but the photo of the flyer was taken from the official poster of her film “The Lion Roars 2.” Emily, her manager, dared the accuser – who called the actress anonymously – to take legal action against Cecilia Cheung if she did not fulfill her end of the contract.
