Xiaomi Mi Notebook 2017 is rumored to be in works. Its leaked specifications have surfaced.
In July 2016, Xiaomi had released its first laptop called Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air and its upgraded edition with 4G LTE support - Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 4G - was launched in December 2016. Speculations indicate that the Chinese firm is working on a successor edition for its 2016 notebook.
Wang Jiping, the assistant vice-president of IDC China has revealed that the Xiaomi managed to sell 110,000 units of Mi Notebook Air in the third quarter of 2016. It accounted for 2 percent of the market which increased to 4 percent by the last quarter of 2016.
Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air has managed to achieve impressive sales because of its affordable pricing, good specs and brand name influence. JIping has hinted the production of the Mi Notebook Air's successor will start in April.
He further added that the newer model will be coming with the same thin build present on the original notebook. Its body is likely to be built using lithium-magnesium alloy that will in reducing the weight of the notebook.
It will be 50 percent lighter than the original notebook that is completely made up of aluminum, Digitimes reported. The 13.3-inch Apple MacBook Air that features aluminum body weighs 1.28 kg whereas an older 13.3-inch NEC Lavie Z that was released in 2012 features magnesium-lithium alloy chassis and its weight is only 0.888 kg.
Moreover, the lithium-magnesium body of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 2017 will be 75 percent stronger than built of the predecessor model. A drawback associated with lithium-magnesium chassis is that it carries a higher price. Hence, this could be a reason why not many notebook companies have used chassis for their devices.
This is an indication that the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 2017 will be arriving with a costlier price tag, GSM Arena reported. As of this writing, there is no information available on its specifications. As the original model was unveiled in July 2016, the Mi Notebook Air 2017 may debut around the same this year. More details on the notebook are expected to roll out soon.
