Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's "Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch" has been picked up by Amazon Studios and will premiere as a six-part limited series in 2018. Gaiman will also serve as showrunner and the series will also premiere on BBC.
"Good Omens" will be set in 2018 and tells the story of the world on the brink of the Apocalypse. However, as the end draws near, an Angel known as Aziraphale and a demon known as Crowley attempt to postpone the event but find difficulty in tracking down the Anti-Christ.
"Almost 30 years ago, Terry Pratchett and I wrote the funniest novel we could about the end of the world, populated with angels and demons," Variety quoted the author as saying. "Three decades later, it's going to make it to the screen. I can't think of anyone we'd rather make it with than BBC Studios, and I just wish Sir Terry were alive to see it."
The novel was originally released in 1990 and was Gaiman's first novel. The writer was, at the time, primarily known as a graphic novel writer. Pratchett got on board, having already been an established author.
Pratchett passed away in 2015, suffering from a rare form of Alzheimer's Disease. Gaiman declared at the time that he would not adapt "Good Omens" now that Pratchett was not by his side, Screen Crush reported.
However, Pratchett had left a letter for Gaiman which was read after the author's death. The contents of the letter revealed Pratchett wanted Gaiman to make an adaptation himself and it was this revelation that led to Gaiman writing the screenplay for the new Amazon and BBC series.
Gaiman is also working on the Starz adaptation of his other novel, "American Gods," which premieres this April. The official teaser trailer for "American Gods" can be viewed below:
