"Goblin" posted its highest TV ratings to date as the penultimate episode of the tvN fantasy drama unveiled Shin (Gong Yoo) and Eun Tak's (Kim Go Eun) fate. Meanwhile, as the TV series heads to its final chapter, viewers can expect to see some of the production's blooper reels and other behind-the-scenes footage in an upcoming two-episode special.
Many viewers tuned in to watch "Goblin" episode 14 following the cliffhanger ending that showed Shin's disappearance after the magical sword was pulled out from his chest. Aired on Jan. 20, Friday, the penultimate episode revealed the deities' decision to erase the memories of the people who knew the immortal being while the goblin was left wandering in a magical yet barren place blanketed with snow.
After a nine-year jump where Eun Tak became a successful radio program producer who suffers from bouts of extreme sadness, an earlier promise to summon the goblin during the first snow paved the way for the immortal being's return to his destined bride's side. Shin is now faced with the challenge of gaining Eun Tak's trust as he woos her to remember their love.
With "Goblin" episode 14 revealing the Shin's return from a magical place between life and death, viewership shares in the Seoul metropolitan area rose to 17.76 percent and 16 percent nationwide, according to Neilsen Korea. Moreover, more than 1.9 million households across the South Korean nation tuned in to watch the tvN drama's penultimate episode.
Meanwhile, with "Goblin" set to end its 16-episode run, showrunners are planning to release a two-episode special in February. Sources told OSEN that discussions to add two special broadcast dates to the tvN drama are ongoing where the said episodes will feature never-before-seen footage, bloopers and interviews with the cast members.
The "Goblin" two-episode special is targeted for release on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4, while the tvN drama's final two episodes will be aired back-to-back on Jan. 21. Watch a preview clip for the upcoming series finale below:
