Another monster inspired film is set to hit the big screen this 2017, though it will be veering away from the conventional approach to such genre. The film "Colossal" will feature Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway as she will be having the most bizarre connection with a towering menace.
Hathaway plays the role of an unemployed woman named Gloria, who was kicked out of her New York apartment thanks to her former boyfriend, Tim (Dan Stevens). Without much of a choice, she goes back to her hometown and contemplate on her life.
Gloria will later on learn from the news about a gigantic monster that suddenly appeared in Seoul, South Korea, that made her quite worried. She will soon find out that the monster's every movement is dependent on what she does despite the distance between her and the behemoth.
Things will then get way out of hand. Gloria will try to seek answers as to where the monster came from and why it got connected to her.
The film has been around since 2016 and premiered in both Toronto International Film Festival and Fantastic Fest. It received generally positive reviews from the aforementioned events for Hathaway's performance not to mention a unique conceptualization in the monster film genre, according to The Verge.
Prior to its release, Japanese production outfit Toho, which is famous for the "Godzilla" film franchise and other critically acclaimed films like "Kagemusha" (Shadow Warrior) from director Akira Kurosawa, cried foul and filed infringement raps against the people responsible for the film. All ll things were straightened out and clarified after having it settled out of court, Movie Web has learned.
