Apple is preparing a new security suite module on its upcoming iPhone 8 as announced by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a new report, highlighting the expectations for the Apple's next-gen flagship phone.
As the tech market awaits the release of the highly-anticipated iPhone 8, new updates on its structural changes are brewing with the help of KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who had kept a good reputation on tracking Apple's hardware changes.
According to MacRumors, Kuo released a latest research report that outlines upcoming features of the famous Apple 2017 iPhone, further specifying a new biometric identification technology and improved design support for a flexible OLED display with 3D Touch capability.
In light of the forthcoming improvement on the smartphones' security suite, Kuo believes that the company's brand of Touch ID system will soon lose its popularity with the upcoming facial recognition system.
However, Kuo emphasized the potential of both fingerprint system and facial recognition, working together in "bio-recognition as a valid solution for enhancing transactions security."
"Judging by the bio-recognition patents that Apple has applied for, we believe it is leaning toward facial recognition technology rather than iris recognition. However, we note that the technical challenges of facial recognition include: (1) algorithms; (2) hardware design; and (3) the build-out of a database for verification and authentication, which could be time consuming. As such, before Apple can fully replace the fingerprint system with facial recognition, a combination of the two steps of bio-recognition could be a valid solution for enhancing transactions security," Kuo said.
On another note, Kuo says that Apple aims to improve its 3D Touch ID technology in the iPhone 8 standard, in order "to complement its full-screen (zero bezel) form factor design," The Verge reported. Despite the still progressing technology for OLED panels, Apple aims to switch from the current capacitive-type to an optical-type system "in order to provide better 3D Touch user experience."
In addition, the new OLED iPhone will come with a flexible OLED panel, which should present a stronger metal structural support under the film sensor, which should avoid possible deforming.
Beforehand, the iPhone 8 is reported to support a radical design change with an embedded home button and an edge-to-edge display. It is also rumored to sport a glass body chassis and wireless charging.
