The producer of the upcoming movie “Battleship Island” just released today, Jan. 25, the trailer of the movie. Ahead of the official release, several fan sites of Song Joong-ki, one of the stars of the film, leaked on Twitter photos and clips of the trailer on Tuesday.
Lit Candle
A screen cap shows Song Joong-ki, who portrays Park Moo-Young, a member of the Korean Independence group who sneaks on the island to rescue a member of the group, looking haggard with blackened face. The other photo shows him and other cast holding a lit candle. That scene likely is the reason why Song Joong-ki gave all 500 staff of the movie a scented candle and personal note when the shooting ended in December.
A one-minute teaser posted on Twitter, also posted on Naver TV, shows fighters in a battleship with flashlights on their heads, soldiers crawling on land with, the ship being battered by wind and water, a building on fire and men escaping the blaze and Song Joong-ki holding a long firearm.
Forced Labor
The movie is Song Joong-ki’s first work after “Descendants of the Sun” which broke viewership records in South Korea and China and has also been streamed in different countries. The film is set during the Japanese colonial era when about 400 Koreans were forced to work in Battleship Island to mine for coal. However, they attempted to escape.
Other stars of the movie are Hwang Jung-Min as Lee Kang-Ok Min, a bandmaster at Kyungshung Hotel. He goes to Japan to protect his daughter but is drafted to the island forcibly, and So Ji-Sub as Choi Chil-Sung, a top fighter in Seoul who causes trouble on the island. The movie was shot in Chuncheon in South Korea from June 17 through Dec. 20.
There is no definite date when would be film be released, but rumors said it would be presented through ScreenX technology which would provide moviegoers spectacular scenes of Chuncheon.
