Mickie James is officially part of the WWE again after six years away from the company. In a recent interview, James opened about his past relationship with John Cena. She also talked about working with Cena and Nikki Bella on SmackDown sometime in the future.
During his tenure in the WWE from 2005 to 2010, James won the women's championship five times and the Divas title once. She was also involved in several great feuds with Trish Stratus and Lita. There was also a time that she had a brief relationship with Cena.
In a recent appearance on Lilian Garcia's Making Her Way To The Ring podcast, James was asked if it will be awkward seeing Cena backstage. She was also asked the possibility of working with Cena's current girlfriend, Nikki Bella.
"We're all adults, and you know obviously this business is what it is, and we've all had our share of relationships failed," James said.
"We're all grown adults and I would hope that, and I'm pretty sure that it's going to be pretty awesome, because I'm sure that I'm going to have to work with Nikki in the ring and I know that we could do some really amazing stuff," she added.
It should be noted that James and Cena had a brief relationship in 2008 before the 15-time WWE world champion married his childhood sweetheart in 2009. There were even reports back then that James was moved from Raw to SmackDown because she struggled to work around her ex-boyfriend, per What Culture.
The controversial relationship also involved former WWE superstar and Spirit Squad member Kenny Dykstra. He was engaged with James in 2007 and their relationship ended when she worked with Cena. Nevertheless, Cena and James are in a very good position at the moment as far as personal lives go.
James is already married to TNA star Magnus and they have a son together named Donovan Patrick. On the other hand, Cena has been dating Nikki since 2012 after his divorce. However, the 39-year-old superstar has made it known that he does not want to get married or have kids in the future.
