Stoic has officially unveiled "The Banner Saga 3," the latest entry in the series. The studio has also launched a new Kickstarter campaign to help fund the project. This will also serve as the conclusion to the franchise.

The Kickstarter page and the embedded video feature reveal that the developers are still an indie studio and are not receiving outside funding for the game. This is one reason why they have turned to crowd-funding for "The Banner Saga 3."

Hero progression from the first two games will return, which means players will be able to integrate their save files from the original entries. "The Banner Saga 3" is also confirmed to retain a similar art style, strategic exploration and combat systems as well as its iconic music.

Just like previous games, the story will revolve around the hero leading a caravan during the end times. Humans and giants (known as the Varl) will work together to survive. However, this time around the "darkness" will play a large role in the game's story, Dual Shockers reported.

The Kickstarter campaign starts with pledges of $10. Donating $20 will give the backer a free copy of the game when it releases. The rewards then continue to pile with higher pledge options. Adding $20 to any donation will also give backers a free copy of the first two games in the series.

Donating more than $2,000 will also guarantee an appearance in the game. Pledging $2,000 will grant an in-game cameo and pledging $5,000 will guarantee the backer is featured as an in-game character. Pledging $10,000, which is the highest option, will guarantee the backer gets all of these bonuses and is also listed as an executive producer for the game.

As of the time of writing, only PC and Mac versions are confirmed. However, a port for the PS4, Xbox One and mobile devices are all expected given how the first two games were ported following the original PC release.

No official release date has yet been announced. The official Kickstarter video feature for "The Banner Saga 3" can be viewed below:
