Carmelo Anthony was considered the franchise player of the New York Knicks for years now. But with the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis and the recent struggles of New York in the National Basketball Association, Knicks president Phil Jackson is firm in moving the multi-faceted forward for some assets in the NBA trade market.
Although Anthony is touted as one of the best players in the league, the Knicks seem to suffer with him on the floor as the 32-year-old often resorts to one-on-one plays. Jackson, knowing that his team is better off without his brightest star, has been soliciting trade offers around the league, New York Daily News reported.
However, teams Jackson reached out to seem to show no interest for the 13-year forward. The Knicks tried to make a deal with Cleveland Cavaliers for All-Star forward Kevin Love but the NBA defending champions look to be satisfied with their frontcourt and only wants to add a guard as per LeBron James' wishes.
Also, the Boston Celtics were also targeted as a shipping place for Melo but Danny Ainge and Beantown, known for a team-first mentality, have no use for someone who thrives in isolation plays and unsolicited shots.
Jackson and the Knicks are desperate in trading Anthony that they engaged in trade talks with the Los Angeles Clippers even if they do not receive any of the Big Three of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, NBA.com reported. If the deal progresses, Jamal Crawford, J.J. Redick or Austin Rivers could be on their way out of Los Angeles.
Anthony will make $24.6 million this season and has $54 million remaining over the next two years of his five-year contract he signed two years ago. He has a no-trade clause and if the Knicks find a destination for him to be shipped, Anthony must agree to where he is bound.
