On Jan. 26, Thursday, Nina Dobrev finally put the rumors to rest after confirming the return of her character Elena Gilbert to "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. She made the announcement on the social media that made her fans so much excited to see the return of the beloved character to The CW supernatural series.
Dobrev made her announcement on Instagram by sharing a script photo with her name written on it. It was also the same way she made her departure announcement when she left at the end of Season 6.

Evil witch Kai had put Elena in a deep sleep spell that could only be waived when her best friend Bonnie (Kat Graham) passes away. Although it has been almost two seasons that Dobrev did not film for new episodes since she left the TV series, she is often seen in flashbacks.
The Bulgarian-Canadian actress only came back when she recorded a vocal cameo for the Season 7 finale. In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Julie Plec said that she asked Dobrev if she wants the scene to be assembled from the past episodes or do the ADR (automated dialogue replacement) in person. During that time, Plec revealed that she is still sticking with the plan to bring her for the show's finale.
"I'm thrilled to bring this show to an end the way we always intended. With Nina back to help us say goodbye," executive producer Julie Plec told Variety about Dobrev's return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Executive producer Kevin Williamson added, "I'm so excited to have Nina back to ensure our farewell episode is truly epic!"
"The Vampire Diaries" follows the story of a high school girl who fell in love with a vampire. Aside from playing the role Elena, Dobrev also assumed the role of Elena's vampire doppelgänger Katherine Pierce, Amara and other different characters in a single episode.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 episode finale titled "I Was Feeling Epic" was written by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, while the former directed it. It is set to return on March 10 on The CW.
